Whoops

Whoops, I dropped my passenger. I feel terrible about it. It isn't something I normally do. You see, we had another alien visitation. I could hear them all morning in the fields, and I was too nervous to be out in my pasture. When Brita came to ride, she found me hiding in the arena where I can run in and out. She could tell I was very disturbed, but told me she would go show me what was happening, and then I would see it was alright.

I could see what looked to be a cousin of the Loch Ness Monster away in the fields. There were those big red trucks coming and going. It all looked OK, and I was walking calmly through the field when it happened. One of those big trucks pulled up nearby, downshifted with a roar, and belched black smoke. This startled my into a series of unfortunate events.

First this happened....

... and Brita landed behind the saddle on my butt, which scared me worse, and I thought the monster had grabbed my flank. So I bucked a bit.... sending her into orbit....

And when she came down, she wasn't in the right place again....

So I bucked a few more times.... ( I was just trying to help, I swear)

And deposited her with unfortunate velocity into the dirt.
Then I ran home as fast as I could to find Mom.

To say Mom was alarmed to see me arrive home alone was an understatement.

But Brita wasn't too far behind. She hollered after me to let everyone know to call off the search, and then she got right back on and made me go back to the field. I certainly didn't want a repeat of that. I found out what the monster was, and it didn't look like it had time to eat a horse.

I brought her home safe and sound in the end, but boy did I feel bad. She hosed me off with cold water and I didn't even squirm. I was afraid to behave badly after my performance in the field. I couldn't even look her in the eye, and was afraid to ask for my peppermint. She gave me one anyway for standing so well for my shower.

I feel very sheepish about the whole thing. Mom says I've been too quiet all afternoon and that obviously I feel bad. I wonder how Brita feels?

Pinecone here, (my mom let me use her account) What IS that monster eating? I’ve never seen anything like that in my life. A few months ago we had a big yellow flying monster that would swoop down close to the ground and pee all over the fields behind my house. It scared all my buddies but not me. It takes a lot to scare me I used to live at racetracks in California…I’ve seen some WEIRD stuff…

Ouch ! I'm glad Brita is well enough to help compose this post, especially after being deposited unceremoniously and with "unfortunate velocity" into the dirt. Hopefully she landed on a padded place first, as opposed to...oh...let's say her head. Let's also hope that the only lasting bruises are to her pride, rather than her posterior !

I have had significant experience watching this sort of thing occur to my person at various times. In the heat of the moment, I tend towards earthier language to describe the unseating experience as well as the final deposit. Kudos to Brita for keeping her prose altogether at such a time ! :)

Oh no Pinecone! Maybe it was a real live Dragon Fly? I'm all for Dragon Flies. I've heard they counter act Deer Flies, and Deer Flies are the worst!

Once I saw a giant balloon hovering over the barn. That was creepy. In fact, it scared the dog and he was gone for hours. Since then no balloons have been back, thank Heaven!

I feel unusually spry today despite the fact that I got almost no sleep... you know that falling sensation you sometimes get when you're drifting off to sleep? Well, there were an unusual number of occurances of those to keep waking me up with an adrenaline rush.

I have a giant purple bruise on the inside of my left elbow from a hind hoof, a bit of whiplash and my jeans have a chunk torn out of them from a front nail clinch.

WP might consider moonlighting as a rodeo bronc and I swear I will never ask him to carry double.

In reviewing Melissa's similar experiences, and keeping in mind my earthier language and the fact this is a PG blog, I have threatened to remedy the situation by hog tieing her posterior to the son....to the witch of a horse so tight that it'd be like they were (insert euphemism of choice) welded together.

Brita I am so glad that you are okay! I have to thank you for your fantastic wit; that story was something. You are my hero - getting right back on ang going back!

Glad you're ok!!! Silly Gray Horse. Doesn't he know those monsters help make his yummy grain?

That sounds like an awful experience for both of you, Grey. I once unloaded my passenger, but that was because I thought she was a monster and not Mother. I understand your confusion and shame.

I am glad Brita feels better. You should remember you are always better off keeping the human with you, especially out in the world. Four eyes are better than two when looking for predators, and she's not gotten you eaten yet, has she? Her judgement is probably pretty sound...

oh no! Poor Brita! That sounds like a heck of a ride/fall! Glad you are both okay. But Brita- don't feel bad, Louie nearly did the same thing to me a few days ago when it started hailing while I was riding in the indoor arena- he was SURE that ths sky was sending down machine guns aiming for him. Lucky for me I got off just as it was starting because I could feel my otherwise usually calm and cool horse getting tense and instinct taking over. . . It was REALLY difficult though, just to lead him back to his stall to get him un-tacked safely (usually we cross tie by the tack room to tack/un-tack, but he was definately in no state of mind to do that!). Yikes! Glad you got back on and finished the job though!
